Brett Martin
Brett Martin’s complete range of plastic soil pipes, water pipes and fittings cater for domestic, commercial and public building applications. The soil pipe and waste systems incorporate both solvent weld and push-fit assemblies, Traps, universal overflows and compression waste. Hot and cold-water supply solutions include Plumbfit and Plasson. Plumbfit, a totally flexible plumbing system, is suitable for all hot and cold plumbing and central heating systems.
Do Brett Martin soil pipes fit with other systems?
Brett Martin soil pipes are designed to be compatible with many standard drainage systems; however, compatibility depends on the pipe diameter and the type of connection. When connecting to a different manufacturer’s system, it’s essential to ensure that the pipe diameters match, the socket dimensions are compatible, and that the solvent weld or rubber ring jointing is suitable. Adapters are available where slight differences exist, allowing seamless connection while maintaining watertight performance.
What expansion gaps should be used for soil pipes?
For push-fit soil stacks, it is essential to allow an expansion gap of 10mm to accommodate the natural thermal expansion and contraction of uPVC pipes. This gap helps prevent stress on joints and reduces the risk of cracking or distortion over time. When installing multiple stacked sections, ensure that a 10mm clearance is maintained between the top of the socket and the adjoining fitting or wall.
At what intervals should a soil pipe be supported?
All soil pipes must be properly supported to maintain alignment and prevent joint stress. Vertical soil pipes should have supports installed at intervals of every 2 m. For horizontal runs, 110mm soil pipes should be supported every 1m, while 160mm pipes require support at intervals of 1.2m. Ensuring correct support spacing helps maintain system integrity and ensures long-term, trouble-free performance.
Can a soil pipe be installed underground?
No. According to the Building Regulations, uPVC pipes installed underground must comply with BS EN 1401 or BS EN 13476, while Brett Martin soil pipes are manufactured to BS EN 1329 for above-ground use.
Products manufactured to BS EN 1329 are compatible with those made to BS EN 1401; however, where a soil pipe transitions from above ground to below ground, the specification must change from BS EN 1329 to BS EN 1401 to ensure compliance with regulations and maintain the integrity of the drainage system.
