A range of standard Rainwater Hopper heads are available and can be customised with dates or other embellishments upon request. Also available are ornamental rainwater heads, which can be adapted to fit different size and shape of down pipes.

All products are available in grey metal primer, for on site painting or Premier extra,a black gloss paint ready for installation. The primer paints used are RAL 7024 dark grey in colour and have been specifically formulated to create a barrier to corrosion. The primers can be over coated with Epoxy, Polyurethane or Acrylic paints. Products are coated internally and externally. The primer coated supplied products are classed as a transit coating and provide short term protection during delivery and undercover storage.

Hargreaves Premier Extra is an exterior coating, high solids, black gloss paint. Black is the standard painted product. High solids gloss paints offer greater durability than paints with a lower solids content. Other RAL colours are available upon request but surcharges would apply. All special RAL coloured products are delivered with a matching tin of touch up paint to make good on any exposure of bare iron as a result of transit and or installation damage.

Coastal regions are difficult to define, however Hargreaves guidelines, they are described as those areas within 5km of the coast. The conditions in these areas are more aggressive than those experienced in many other areas. It is therefore very important that any paint chips or impact / installation damage is rectified straight away. Failure to rectify damage at an early stage, will lead to corrosion of the product progressing at an increased rate above what would be seen at an inland location. To combat this aggressive environment, the overall coating thickness on the Premier Coastal products is much greater. This increased coating thickness forms a longer-lasting barrier between the environment and the substrate thus delaying the onset of corrosion.

What sizes of cast iron downpipes are available from Hargreaves?

We offer a wide range of cast iron downpipes in both round and rectangular profiles. Round downpipes are available off the shelf in 65mm (2.5"), 75mm (3"), 100mm (4"), and 150mm (6"). Square and rectangular downpipes come in sizes such as 75x75mm (3x3"), 100x100mm (4x4"), 125x125mm (5x5"), and several other combinations. Custom sizes may also be available upon request.

What finishes are available for Hargreaves cast iron drainage products?

Our products are available in two finishes:

Grey Metal Primer (RAL 7024), which offers short-term protection during transit and storage. It can be overcoated on-site with Epoxy, Polyurethane, or other suitable external metal paints eg: Hammerite.

Premier Extra, a high-solids black gloss exterior coating, ready for installation. Other RAL colours can be supplied on request, and all special colour orders include a matching touch-up tin.

Can Hargreaves Foundry supply decorative or custom rainwater hoppers?

Yes, we offer a range of standard and ornamental rainwater hopper heads. Many of these can be customised with dates or decorative embellishments to suit the aesthetic of your project. Hoppers can also be adapted to fit different pipe sizes and shapes.

Are Hargreaves cast iron products suitable for coastal areas?

Yes, but extra care is required. Coastal areas (within 5km of the sea) have more aggressive environmental conditions. For these locations, we recommend our Premier Coastal finish, which has a thicker coating to delay corrosion. It's also essential to repair any damage to the coating immediately to prevent accelerated deterioration.

How can I maintain the finish of my cast iron rainwater system?

To ensure longevity, inspect the system regularly for paint chips or damage, especially after installation or in high-impact areas. Promptly touching up any exposed areas helps prevent rust, particularly in coastal environments where corrosion can advance more rapidly.
